Roughness Tester
A roughness meter is a device designed to measure the roughness of surfaces, which is crucial for assessing the quality of materials in many industrial applications. This device allows the measurement of microstructural properties of the surface, which affect functionality, wear, friction and other mechanical properties. The roughness meter analyzes small surface irregularities and converts them into quantitative data that can be interpreted using various roughness parameters, such as roughness arithmetic mean (Ra), maximum height difference (Rz), root mean square roughness (Rq), and more.
To measure surface roughness, it is essential to use reference samples that have defined roughness values. These samples are used to calibrate roughness meters and provide a basis for comparing the measured surfaces. Surface roughness samples are created by special techniques to have a known and controlled structure, allowing for accurate and repeatable measurements. These samples may vary according to usage and application requirements.
